About ABC Triple J NSW

Triple J is an Australian radio station funded by the government and therefore owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The station plays alternative music and gives greater emphasis to Australian content when compared to other commercial stations. Triple J commenced broadcasting on 19 January 1975, at 1540 kHz on the AM band. Initially the station was given the call sign 2JJ, but soon became commonly known as Double J. On 1 August 1980 2JJ started broadcasting on a frequency of 105.7 MHz on the FM band (again restricted to within the greater Sydney region) and became 2JJJ (later, Triple J). In 1989 JJJ expanded nationally to: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Newcastle, and Perth.
