The 1980s mark the emergence of electronic music and new wave, also known as modern rock. The disco style was already out of fashion by the early years of the decade. Genres such as post-disco, Italo disco, Eurodisco and dance-pop became more popular. During this period, rock music enjoyed a wider audience. Soft rock, glam metal, thrash metal, shred guitar, characterized by strong distortions, become very popular, so that at the end of the 1980s, glam metal is already the largest and most successful genre of music in the whole world.
